CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday instructed the administrative machinery to contain the Covid-19 spread without further escalation and keep treatment facilities ready even as impact of the virus has so far been found to be minimal in the state.
The containment measures should be appropriately taken by departments like health, municipal administration, revenue and disaster management department.
The CM held a review meeting with officials at the secretariat against the backdrop of a rise in positive cases. “Since vaccination is the only weapon to defeat coronavirus, the government is resolute in getting all people vaccinated. So far, the first dose coverage being 93.82% and the second dose 82.94%,” an official release said.
The chief minister directed the administration to create awareness about the significance of vaccination and get everyone vaccinated. In all, 43 lakh people are still to take the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 1.2 crore the second dose.
The Covid impact is felt in Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Coimbatore and Tiruvallur districts. Covid clusters are also reported from a few educational institutions in Chennai. All of them were fully screened and those affected were isolated and given appropriate treatment with the help of institutions.
“If a few people get affected by the virus in work places, festivals, weddings, meetings and events, the chief minister orders all of them to be examined, monitored continuously and provided appropriate treatment,” the release said.
The chief minister advised the administration to create awareness among people to strictly adhere to the preventive measures such as wearing masks, frequent washing hands and social distancing and the need to follow adequate testing, monitoring, treatment and vaccination.
The meeting was attended by chief secretary V S Irai Anbu, DGP Sylendra Babu, health secretary J Radhakrishnan and heads of departments of municipal administration, revenue, rural development and panchayat raj and health officials.
